Emergency Food & Nutrition for Karamoja Families

Karamoja is facing a severe hunger crisis, and thousands of vulnerable families are struggling to survive. According to the latest IPC analysis, approximately 473,000 people—32% of the analyzed population—are experiencing Crisis or Emergency levels of acute food insecurity, including about 41,000 people already in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency). All nine districts of Karamoja are classified at Crisis level.

Behind these numbers are children going to bed hungry, mothers struggling to provide even one meal a day, and families who have watched their crops fail after prolonged dry conditions. Poor agricultural production, livestock losses, pests, diseases and high food prices have combined to place enormous pressure on households that already have very few resources.

The consequences are especially frightening for young children. IPC estimates indicate that approximately 122,100 children aged 6–59 months are expected to experience acute malnutrition between March 2026 and February 2027, including approximately 30,600 children with severe acute malnutrition.
