Over the coming months we aim to provide emergency food aid and medical assistance to thousands of severely malnourished children under five, pregnant women and lactating mothers in Ethiopia.
For Ethiopians living in drought-prone areas, consecutive failed rainy seasons and sharply-rising food prices are taking their toll. Emergency feeding centres have been overwhelmed with families hoping to save their severely malnourished loved ones. To help reduce this suffering, Ethiopiaid is targeting famine relief to children under five and their families affected by drought in the Arsi Negele and Shashemene Districts in Southern Ethiopia.
Famix, a protein-fortified food, will be provided to feed severely malnourished children. Supplies of wheat, cooking oil, beans, and seeds will also be distributed to help starving families return home.
We aim to provide food to 7,500 starving individuals, 4000 of whom are children under the age of 5. The adults affected will also be given training to provide them with recovery plans for their return home, which help them to rebuild their lives.
