This project will provide emergency food assistance, supplementary nutrition, nutrition screening, hygiene promotion and community engagement for 2,500 vulnerable Pokot households (about 15,000 people) in Amudat District. The intervention addresses life-saving needs while strengthening local resilience through partnerships with district authorities and community structures.
Karamoja remains one of Uganda's most food-insecure regions due to recurrent drought, climate variability, livestock losses, poverty and limited livelihood opportunities. Pokot households in are disproportionately affected. Children under five, pregnant and lactating women, older persons and persons with disabilities face heightened risks of acute malnutrition, illness and negative coping strategies.
