Through Aseel’s emergency relief project, we successfully provided essential support to over 170 families affected by the 2024 floods in Baghlan, Afghanistan. Our efforts included the distribution of food, tents, and 1,700 meters of water pipes to those in urgent need. On-the-ground coordination and meticulous planning allowed us to deliver aid effectively and ensure it reached the most affected communities.
The flooding in Baghlan caused widespread devastation. Many homes were completely destroyed, and the loss of life was catastrophic. One heartbreaking case involved a family in which only an 8-year-old child survived; tragically, the rest of their relatives perished in the disaster. The bodies of victims were trapped under collapsed structures for extended periods before they could be recovered.
In addition to the destruction of homes, the floods decimated farmland, wiping out crops and causing the loss of livestock. Agriculture and livestock were the primary sources of food and income for these families, and the loss of these resources has left many in an ongoing state of vulnerability.
While immediate relief efforts have provided some support, the affected communities continue to face severe hardship. There remains a critical need for ongoing assistance to help these families recover and rebuild their lives in the long term.
