On Monday 14th August Freetown was hit by a devastating mudslide and flooding that killed over 1,000 people and left thousands more homeless and with nothing.
Thanks to your support, our incredible local teams were able to respond immediately. They:
Cecelia is just one of 86 Street Child heroes who worked tirelessly distributing emergency food and clean water to victims of the disaster. During emergency relief efforts she met Isaac and Idris. They lost both their parents in the mudslide when their house washed away.
"Mum was a housewife." Isaac said. "She would cook us breakfast and then, after I played football, she would see I was hungry and smile and make me some more rice. I want to go back to school. I don't want to live like this."
Cecelia set to work sourcing donated clothes for the boys to change into and arranged for trauma counselling. Now she is determined to find a way for the brothers to return to school.
"After this disaster, we are going to need more help to support them and other vulnerable children to get an education."
With your support, we were able to respond to the emergency needs. Now, we want to help those impacted to rebuild their lives. With your help, we can support Cecilia and her team to give vulnerable children a chance to go to school and have hope for a brighter future.
