Peace Winds provided emergency medical care and is now distributing food, water, and essential supplies to survivors of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 -- the most powerful in a century to hit the country. Thousands are confirmed dead, and the damage is extraordinary. Funds are urgently required to support teams on the ground who are working to distribute a range of goods to families in the hardest-hit communities.
Thousands of earthquake survivors are struggling to meet their most basic needs, and large numbers of people have lost their homes. Even before the earthquake, war-torn Myanmar was one of Asia's poorest countries, with hundreds of thousands displaced, poor infrastructure, and insufficient health care, making its people especially vulnerable to disasters. Now the demand for humanitarian aid--including food, water, shelter, and basic supplies--is immense and not being met.
Peace Winds mobilized immediately in response to the earthquake. Our medical team was one of the few that managed to enter the country, and for two weeks, doctors and nurses treated nearly 200 patients who were desperately in need of medical care. Now, staff on the ground continue working with local partner organizations to provide survivors with food, bottled water, and supplies like shelter kits, sleeping mats, blankets, and hygiene items.

Because the needs in Myanmar are so great, we are committed to meeting survivors' essential needs in the long-term, and staff are working with local partner organizations to plan activities for recovery.
