Within weeks of COVID19 hitting hundreds of Cambodians were out of work as tourists left and businesses closed. Hundreds are now out of work, facing the potential threat of sickness through COVID19, or hunger as so many families fall into deep poverty. We will continue to support our community in every way we can. At this time that means providing emergency food, hygiene products and medicine to those who cannot afford it and also moving our counselling and workshops online.
Most people in Siem Reap work in tourism or hospitality. Sadly COVID19 hit early in the 2020 high season and most tourists left or cancelled. This has caused huge job losses and high levels of unemployment. People do not know how long this will last or when the economy will recover. People are worried about their health, falling into deep long term poverty, and hunger. They need support in order to access their basic needs and WRC needs your support to be able to deliver that.
This project will allow WRC to support families with food, hygiene supplies, medical access and emotional support for those in need. This front-line initial support early on is essential to help families survive.
To provide basic emergency support for our community to enable them to survive the health and economic impact of COVID19 and help them get back on their feet once the storm has passed.
