Emergency appeal - effects of El Nino

Summary

A strong El Nino is already in its early stages in 2026. Whilst this could bring heavy rains to the western USA, in Central America a drought has already begun. The consequences for this already impoverished region are expected to be catastrophic. Rivers and streams are drying up leading to lack of water for rural communities. Crop failures are expected, leading to job losses, food insecurity and other economic pressures. At the same time, wildlife become parched due to the lack of water.

Challenge

Central American countries do not have the resources to prepare for climate calamities. Effects of severe drought in the region are already causing disruptions and are expected to worsen.

Solution

By building water-supply stations, forest wildlife have access to water to avoid death. By helping communities to access water, the rural communities can gain acces to the water they need at the househould level. By working with partner organizations to prepare for the distribution of food relief, we can prepare for the worst case scenario of crop loss that is being forecast by meteorological agencies.

Long-Term Impact

Your support can help forest wildlife and rural communities in Nicaragua and El Salvador to recover after this El Nino drought has passed.
