Since April when our trustee, Ingrid, was back on the ground at the Serbian-Hungarian border, the summer months saw an increase in the populations of people on the move in the region.
Summer may bring less harsh conditions than winter months, but people are still forced to survive in makeshift shelters and squats. Often hungy and with continuing poor hygienic conditions. With little access to first aid or health care the consequences of difficult to treat skin infections are ever present.
Since the focus on hygiene in spring our network continued the efforts as best they could, and when volunteer numbers and skills allowed, over the summer. We have continued to support the region with the money you've so brilliantly donated here. With everything from vehicles to hygiene, sleeping bags to boots.
We were able to replace the washing machines mentioned in our last report with two new industrial-size washers and two dryers. They've been in constant use since!
We will always need to raise more money for these projects to carry on but we are really pleased we could help in this way so far.
Our trustee Amber will be back out there at the end of November to see for herself the difference being made and to help ensure we stay useful and impactful to our partners and those they help.
Thank you for being with us on the fight for humanity, not hostility, to refugees in Europe.
