Continuing to Stand with Communities in Ukraine
As Ukraine faces another autumn marked by ongoing hostilities, the humanitarian consequences of the war remain deeply felt. Years of displacement, damaged infrastructure and interrupted livelihoods have left many families with limited resources to meet everyday needs. With colder months approaching, reliable access to heating, electricity and other basic services is once again a pressing concern, particularly for people living in heavily affected areas.
Caritas Austria continues to work alongside trusted local partners to respond to changing needs, combining immediate relief with longer-term support that helps communities preserve dignity, stability and a sense of connection.
Meeting Essential Needs
For households affected by displacement, financial hardship or damage to their homes, even routine expenses can be difficult to manage. Caritas and its partners continue to prioritize practical, needs-based assistance, including emergency support, essential household supplies and help accessing basic services.
This flexible approach is especially important as families prepare for winter and face further uncertainty about the months ahead.
Creating Safe Spaces for Children and Families
For children growing up amid repeated air raid alerts and disrupted routines, the effects of war extend far beyond immediate physical danger. Consistent opportunities to play, learn, connect with others and receive emotional support are essential.
Psychosocial activities, child-friendly spaces and family counselling remain central to Caritas Austria’s response. By supporting parents, caregivers and frontline community workers, these efforts also help strengthen the networks that children depend on in times of crisis.
Reaching Older People and Those Most at Risk
Older people, people living with chronic illnesses and individuals with limited mobility can be particularly isolated during prolonged emergencies. Community-based services, homecare and volunteer support help address both practical needs and the human need for companionship.
Such assistance can make a meaningful difference for people who may otherwise struggle to access services or remain connected to their communities.
Why Continued Support Matters
The needs created by this war cannot be resolved through emergency relief alone. Alongside essential assistance, sustained psychosocial care and local support networks help people navigate uncertainty and maintain hope for the future.
The work of Caritas Austria and its partners seeks to respond to immediate hardships while reinforcing the resilience of individuals, families and communities.
Looking Ahead
As winter draws closer, Caritas Austria will continue to focus on vulnerable households, the well-being and protection of children and families, and accessible community-based support. Our response will remain guided by local partners and the evolving needs of people affected by the conflict.
We are deeply grateful to the GlobalGiving community for its solidarity. Your support helps make it possible to stand alongside people in Ukraine through another difficult season.
