Severe floods in Nepal have displaced families and left many without access to essential supplies, healthcare and medicines. Together with our long-standing local partner Save the Heart Nepal, we are responding directly to the emergency in Belkotgadhi, Nuwakot, where many families and children are living in temporary shelters. We are providing essential goods, medical care, medicines and initial psychological support.
On August 26, severe flooding struck Nepal, causing deaths, damaging homes and disrupting transport. Many families were forced to leave their homes and now live in temporary shelters. In Belkotgadhi Municipality, Nuwakot District, three emergency shelters host many displaced people, including children. Families urgently need essential supplies, medical care and medicines. Some adults and children are also experiencing fear, insomnia and other emotional effects of the emergency.
Urgent needs are being addressed with local partner Save the Heart Nepal by providing essential supplies, medical care and psychological support to children and families affected by the floods. Medicines, clothing and other supplies will be purchased and distributed locally. Basic healthcare will be provided, with patients requiring further treatment referred to available health facilities. Psychological support will help families cope with the disaster and begin rebuilding their lives.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, we will help protect the health and well-being of children and families during displacement, reducing the risk that untreated medical or psychological needs become more serious. Through our long-standing partnership with Save the Heart Nepal and the direct presence of local professionals, we will continue assessing the situation and identifying people who may need further care and support as communities recover from the emergency.
