April is Meals on Wheels People's month to STRIDE!
Each year, hundreds of staff and volunteers come together to showcase our STRIDE FOR SENIORS annual fundraising event. Elm Court Center not only supports these festivities but has achieved some recent milestones that serves our community in addition to the daily meals and nutrition our mission is committed to deliver: No senior will go hungry or experience social isolation.
Elm Court Center has made "strides" in implementing a book exchange program, collecting and distributing additional emergency items (warm clothes, blankets, etc) that aids our walk up window clients in need. This hard working team has also started a program to recognize client birthdays --- a fabulous example of the deep care we have for those being served by the Elm Court Center team.
In additon to these initiatives, Fifty-five (55) clients from Elm Court are currently receiving Friendly Chats calls. Twenty percent 20% of clients, or twelve (12) individuals are currently paired with trained volunteers. We look forward to reporting in the future on some of the successful relationships and the anticipated impacts we see from these friendly calls and contact efforts.
We are grateful for those who continue to help support our Elm Court Center in downtown Portland. Supporters are helping us to advance and achieve our FY2023 projected goal: To deliver more than 160,000 meals by June 2023 to at least 750 seniors each day (including homeless adults and veterans, seniors with disabilities, and those who are homebound).
Interested in helping? Consider donating or volunteering today to help us continue the model Elm Court Center is demonstrating as we all STRIDE to support the seniors we honor and value in our communities and beyond!
