Madagascar Project Update #1

By Jessica Wilkinson | Project Liason

To date, we have evaluated 272 children in Madagascar. Severely acute children are at the greatest risk of dying. Lucky very few children fell under this classification. We provide these kids triple dose of a peanut based nutritional supplement, called Plumpy'Nut, and encourage the care-giver to take the child to a health clinic. Moderately acute children are at next highest risk. They are provided a double does of supplement. Chronically malnourished children constitute over half of all children in the group. They are provided a normal dose of nutritional supplement.
Our program coordinator Manda Randriamiarisoa sent us pictures and information about two kids in the program. Anjara, from Antananarivo, is always excited to get the supplement each month and always reminds her mother to take her to get it. Claudine works on weekends when the screenings are held, but had been wanting to take her granddaughter. She finally had a weekend off and was able to take her granddaughter to the screening, and she qualified. They are very thankful for the supplement and she has hope that it will help her baby granddaughter, who has been growing very slowly.

Thanks to your support, our fundraising has exceeded our expectations!  Because of this, we are planning to expand into the Antsirabe and Tamatave districts later this year.

Thank you!
