Thank you so much for contributing to the many successes of our GlobalGiving project, Elevate Lives of Vulnerable Children in Mexico.
The project is now fully funded.
We were able to achieve exactly what we set out to do:
Provide new and better opportunities for our male and female residents through trades training and our Social Worker guidance program.
The pilot project of trades training will remain a part of Casa Hogar’s regular intervention work.
We were fortunate to expose our residents to several workshops including:
This week we have started an acrylic nails workshop which will occur twice a week.
Earlier this year we lost our Social Work due to her need to move out of state but we’re thrilled to have found Alejandra Hernandez who has jumped right into the role without missing a beat.
This fundraising project has proven to be very effective and will have long-term impacts with our current and future residents.
Thank you for your contributions!

Thanks to your generosity, we are so very close to complete funding of this heart-warming project.
There are two main components to our project:
a) Trades Training for youth
b) Funding for our Casa Hogar Social Worker
Trades Training at Casa Hogar continues to be a very edifying activity for the participants. After finishing our Bicycle Repair workshop, we started an Automotive Mechanics course.
Training themes have included changing a flat tire, oil & filter changes and preventative/programmed maintenance. We’ve even had some driving lessons!
These training workshops provide the youth of Casa Hogar practical life skills, exposure to basic maintenance concepts and an opportunity to identify if the trade is of interest to them on a professional level.
Our residents are particularly interested in remuneration benefits. They often inquire if particular trades are well-paying professions. The simple answer we are providing is "If you have quality service you will receive quality payment.".
Our Social Worker continues to play an instrumental role in facilitating family-visits onsite and in-home. Currently two of our teen residents (brothers) are spending the full month of February with their Aunt. A family re-integration appears to be in the near future.
Also last month, 15-year-old teen, Zoren, who had spent 6-years in our care was reintegrated with his mother. Truly nothing short of a miracle. Mother and son are doing very well. Finding and keeping in contact with family members is incredibly important. We have been fortunate to witness incredible transformations in the lives of family members allowing for reintegration.
We are definitely on the right path. Thank you for your continued contributions into the valuable lives of the children and teens of Casa Hogar de Cabo San Lucas.

Thanks to your generosity, our project goal is closely in sight. There are two main components to the project:
a) Trades Training for youth
b) Funding for a Casa Hogar Social Worker
Trades Training at Casa Hogar has been very edifying for the participants and Casa Hogar. Training themes have included electrical circuits, soldering, plumbing, garden irrigation systems, videography and air conditioning. This past Saturday we started a new course, bicycle repair, which attracted the attention of many more residents including younger students.
These training courses provide the youth of Casa Hogar practical life skills, exposure to basic maintenance concepts and an opportunity to identify if the trade is of interest to them on a professional level.
In particular, our teens were attracted to the business opportunity of air conditioning service and repair, due to the high reward to investment ratio, to-home service and relative low time investment.
In fact, one of our teens is already assisting our air conditioning service contractor.
Our Social Worker has played an instrumental role in facilitating family-visits onsite and in-home. Since June we have had 11 children re-integrated with their family members (for the most part, grandparents, aunts and uncles).
With school classes being taking from home, we have additional time available on weekdays to invest in formative sessions discussing values, health and emotional well-being. We are definitely on the right path.
Thank you for your continued contributions into the valuable lives of the children and teens of Casa Hogar de Cabo San Lucas.
Greetings!
In mid-March, in light of concerns of COVID-19, we had to make significant changes to our visitor’s policy cancelling all non-essential visits. This included external Instructors putting our trades training workshop on a temporary hold.
But the teens were productive throughout the spring lending a hand with cleaning, sorting and organizing. They were of tremendous help pruning trees and gardening. They also learned some home skills with baking and cooking classes.
We’ll get back to formal trades training classes on July 4th. Right in time for summer, the theme will be air condition maintenance.
Meanwhile our Social Worker, Claudia has had a busy season coordinating internal workshops on life values, children’s rights and sexuality. We’ve really covered a lot of ground in these areas this year.
Thank you for making this possible through your valuable contributions.
Our rough and rugged trades training Instructor, Mauro went Hollywood (temporarily) for our most recent 12-week workshop.
Seeking a lighter and more social theme we selected videography. Our residents worked in small groups to brainstorm ideas, create scripts, assign roles, select costumes and ultimately record, edit and present their short film creations.
Interestingly enough the favorite theme of the participants was reenacting dynamics and experiences of the Casa Hogar family in particular staff-resident interaction.
This allowed for plenty of comedic relief for all those involved.
The videography activities were conducted throughout the property including outdoor spaces. Acting contributes to positive social relationships, self-confidence and a sense of achievement.
Congratulations to all the participants including the younger children and pre-teens who received a special invitation to contribute and learn along with the teens.
