Mtwalume children face many challenges including malnutrition, poor access to education & a lack of emotional support or security. These inequities cause barriers to developmental, educational, & skills advancements. Without effective interventions, children growing up at the centre of these problems face no chance of succeeding. These challenges, compounded by the impacts of Covid-19 on the national economy often results in fewer meals that are required for physical development and growth too.
Locally hired and trained facilitators host Neighbourhood Learning to give children a meaningful education & develop important life skills by using stories, art, science, & maths to make lateral connections across subject areas, whilst remaining in their neighbourhood, reducing the spread of Covid-19. The new Home Visiting and Household Garden Programme's propel guardians into a role where they are confident to support their children's educational, emotional and nutritional needs.
As the only non-profit organization supporting this under-served area, we support over 1000 children and youth, 360 Household Gardens and 400 Organic Farmers in rural South Africa. Through these programmes, we aim to empower the next generation of citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to feel fulfilled and to contribute positively to their communities, ensuring the neighbourhood programmes impact all generations in households.
