Ongoing elephant and gibbon monitoring

By Thailand Team | Project Team

Dear Supporters,

Your generosity is changing lives – for both elephants and people. Through your donations, our team in Northern Thailand has been able to continue vital conservation work and community engagement, creating a more sustainable and compassionate future for all.

Here’s how your support is making a real impact:

Your contributions help us observe and record the behaviour of elephants that have been reintroduced to their natural forest habitat. By tracking their feeding patterns, movement, and social dynamics, we ensure their wellbeing and support their long-term adaptation to a more natural lifestyle – away from exploitative tourism.

Did you know? In addition to elephants, your donations also help us monitor the local gibbon population – an important indicator of forest health. Through regular surveys, we’re able to contribute to regional conservation efforts and better understand the needs of these elusive primates.

We're proud to partner closely with the Karen community, many of whom are former elephant mahouts (caretakers). With your help, we’ve been able to offer training in sustainable livelihoods, data collection, and eco-tourism practices – empowering them to take active roles in ethical conservation.

Language builds bridges. Thanks to donor support, we run English classes for local students and adults, helping to open doors to educational and employment opportunities in eco-tourism, conservation, and beyond. These classes strengthen connections and support long-term community development.

Every donation matters.
From the forest trails to the classroom, your generosity is helping us build a future where elephants roam free, ecosystems are protected, and communities thrive.

Thank you for being a part of this journey.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Thailand Elephant Project Team
