Elderly widows raising orphans in Kenya are going hungry. Widows range in age from 60 to over 100 years old. Many are disabled, ill, or just too old to work, and yet they take on the responsibility of raising their orphaned grandchildren when no one else can or will. With your help, the funding of this project will provide food packages to 20 families for one year, making food deliveries every 4-5 weeks. Hunger hurts. Help provide food packages to the most vulnerable - widows and orphans.
Elderly widows in Kenya often take the responsibility of raising their orphaned grandkids who have no one else who can take them in and provide shelter and food for them. These are aged women who can't just go out and work, so what are the choices? Leave these children to the street? No, they take them in and struggle to survive depending on others to give them food. Too often they don't eat at all. They hope that tomorrow someone in the village will give them food. You can help them today.
If we deliver a food package to a widow's family, it will sustain them for 4-5 weeks. If we don't have a fund set to cover food deliveries long term to that family, then after a month or so they end up at the same place they started--no food, empty tummies, no nutrition. This project once funded will ensure continual food deliveries month after month. It will provide nutrition, full tummies and a very great relief and blessing to elderly widows raising grandchildren in their old age.
This project impacts both the widows and the orphans they are raising. The children will get the nutrition they need to build stronger and healthier bodies. Kids won't be sitting in school listening to their tummies grumbling with hunger instead of focusing on learning. Their academics will improve. The elderly who already raised their families will receive the nutrients needed to stay healthy and strong to raise another generation of children without the constant worry of how to feed them.
