2024 Annual Program ReportGrace Elderly Care International Inc. (GECI)
Overview
This report highlights the significant achievements and impacts of Grace Elderly Care International Inc. (GECI) in Nekemte Town, East Wollega Zone, Ethiopia, over the past year. Our initiatives have significantly improved the quality of life for the elderly, addressing their crucial needs and fostering a supportive community environment.
Background
Nekemte Town, an urban area experiencing rapid growth, faces challenges such as urban poverty, exacerbated by a continuous influx of rural migrants due to internal conflicts and environmental crises. The elderly are particularly affected, facing issues like malnutrition and inadequate housing. In response, GECI has been proactive in providing necessary support and services to this vulnerable population.
Key AchievementsElderly Care and Support
- Cash Allowances: GECI has provided monthly financial assistance to the elderly, helping them manage essential living costs.
- Health Follow-up and Counseling: We have conducted frequent health check-ups and psychological counseling sessions at our centers and through home visits, ensuring comprehensive health support for the elderly.
- Essential Item Distribution: Items such as clothing, kitchenware, wheelchairs, blankets, and crutches have been distributed, significantly improving the daily lives of the elderly.
Partnership and Networking
GECI has expanded its network to include local health organizations, social services, and community-based facilities, enhancing the quality and reach of our services.
Beneficiary Impact
- Total Beneficiaries: This year, 75 elderly individuals received direct benefits from our programs, reflecting a 50% increase in outreach compared to the previous year.
- Health and Well-being: There have been significant improvements in both physical health and mental wellness among the beneficiaries, demonstrating the effectiveness of our initiatives.
Challenges and Solutions
The growing need for assistance among the elderly, especially those without homes, remains a challenge. GECI has responded by initiating housing projects and expanding our volunteer efforts. However, we continue to face a critical need for additional funding to sustain and expand our services.
The Way Forward
- Strengthening Partnerships: We will continue to strengthen our existing relationships and establish new ones with community stakeholders to enhance our support network.
- Expanding Services: Our goals for 2025 include increasing the number of beneficiaries, broadening the range of services, and improving overall service quality through enhanced fundraising efforts and stronger community engagement.
Acknowledgements
We extend our deepest gratitude to all our partners, the local government, and our dedicated volunteers, whose support has been instrumental in our success. We are committed to alleviating the hardships faced by the elderly in Nekemte and look forward to another year of meaningful impact.
