This Community Library is far more than a place to read-it is a trusted community hub where education, creativity, mentorship, and economic opportunity come together. Children, women, and youth learn alongside local and international volunteers through literacy support, homework assistance, computer training, English classes, arts, sports, and leadership activities. These programs give participants practical skills, confidence, and a supportive space to imagine-and pursue-a different future.
Although 73% of girls enroll in elementary school, only 1% continue to college, and just 15% are economically active. Poverty, limited education, and pervasive teenage pregnancy interrupt girls' schooling and leave women financially dependent. These barriers do not affect girls alone: they shape the well-being, safety, and economic prospects of entire families and communities. The need is immediate: girls need support before they leave school, and women need practical pathways to income now.
This project works with girls ages 7-18- building confidence, aspirations, and school engagement that allows them to overcome gender-based barriers that push them out of education. Through reading, tutoring, computer and English classes, theater, dance, sports, and creative learning, girls develop academic skills, self-esteem, leadership, and a healthy understanding of their bodies, rights, and potential. They learn that their futures are theirs to shape.
When girls stay in school, develop confidence, and gain practical skills, they are better positioned to continue their education, pursue skilled work, and make informed choices about their futures. When women earn income and organize together, they strengthen their households and become leaders in their communities. This project creates lasting change by connecting education, gender equality, youth development, and women's economic empowerment in one accessible place. Its model is replicable.
