The center will be a permanent structure where different workshops will be facilitated to engage the youth in income generating activities.
2014 study by UNICEF and the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) About 12.8 million Filipino children under the age of 15 are impoverished About 550,000 children in Metro Manila live in poverty, forcing them to help earn for their families or fend for themselves on the streets Public assistance for street children is limited and inadequate 2013 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) About 4 million Filipino children and youth were out-of-school
Among the most pressing concerns of out-of-school children and youth is the apparent lack of a safe space for them that is conducive for learning, and where their special needs are addressed: Learning materials and technology Health needs Counselling and psychosocial interventions Development of skills and talent The proposed structure will serve as a learning/training center for street children and youth beneficiaries, as well as classroom and library for other children beneficiaries.
By working towards providing a better and safer environment for children and youth beneficiaries to study and learn. Creating a conducive space for education can indeed have a positive impact on their development. The initiative to save on rental fees during service skills/livelihood program training for the youth is a strategic move. By redirecting these savings directly to the needs of the beneficiaries, it can enhance its support system and make a more significant impact to their lives.
