Progress Report
Nourishing Minds, Feeding the Future School Feeding Project in Rural Liberia

Date: November 15, 2024
Prepared by: Elton Dunn Yoko

Project Overview:
The Nourishing Minds, Feeding the Future initiative is committed to eradicating hunger among schoolchildren in rural Liberia by providing consistent and nutritious meals. The program aims to address malnutrition, improve academic performance, and enhance children's motivation to stay in school.

Chronological Progress Update:

Preparation Phase

  1. T-Shirt Procurement and Branding (Completed):
    • Over 144 branded T-shirts were purchased and printed to represent the 14 schools participating in the program.
    • These T-shirts symbolize the collective effort and serve as a unifying identity for the program under the theme: "Together we smile".
    • This milestone reflects our passion and commitment to ensuring children in Liberia have access to proper nutrition for optimal growth and learning.

Community Engagement

  1. Consultation with Community Dwellers (Completed):
    • A series of discussions were held with community stakeholders, including parent’s teachers association (PTA), local leaders, and other residents, to ensure their buy-in and support for the feeding program.
    • These consultations emphasized the importance of addressing malnutrition and its detrimental effects on children's physical and cognitive development.
  2. Agreement with School Principals (Completed):
    • All 14 school principals signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), formalizing their commitment to the program's implementation.
    • The MOU outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party and ensures accountability in program execution.

Implementation Planning

  1. Feeding Schedule Development (Completed):
    • A detailed feeding schedule has been developed to ensure systematic and efficient implementation.
    • Feeding will begin on Monday November18, 2024 , targeting two schools during the first week. Meals will be served from Monday through Thursday, allowing for rotational coverage of all schools in subsequent weeks.

Upcoming Activities:

  • Monday Launch (November 18, 2024): The program will officially commence with the first round of feeding in the two targeted schools.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuous monitoring will ensure quality control and gather feedback for further improvement.

Closing Note:
Our slogan, "Together we smile," reflects our belief in the transformative power of this program. By addressing hunger and malnutrition, we aim to provide children with the foundation they need for a brighter future.

Together, we are creating smiles and building futures.
