Dear friends ,
With New Year greetings we are sharing an impact story .
In India elementary education in Government run schools is free till grade 7 . But in High School children have to bear the cost of education. Poor families often find it very difficult to meet the expenses on school / extra-coaching fees , cost of school materials etc . Sponsorship support is a boon to many families’ especially single parent families. We have been running a sponsorship programme to support such needy children since 2007 . Along with support to meet educational needs, children get opportunities for their all-round development. A brief report on the impact of the sponsorship programme run by IDEA is given below :-
Output
In academic year 2014-15, total 27 children appeared for the state board examination. Out of them, 17 children appeared for 10th standard exam and 10 children appeared for 12th standard exam. We are glad that all 27 children passed with good score. 4 children in 10th have scored above 80%. Ritesh scored 88 % and Amar scored 87.6% in 10th board exam. 2 children in 12th standard scored above 70 %. It is really appreciable that in spite of all the odds, they have achieved the success. Felicitation program for the toppers was held in July.
Impact
Highlights on extra-curricular activities
Two girl students are good kabbadi ( an Indian game )players. Pratiksha who is 11th standard played in District level competition and Swati who played state level matches. Both are doing hard and aim to be in National level matches. Our sponsorship support always motivates such students.
Success story
Shubham on the right path to progress
Shubham is an enthusiastic and calm natured boy studying in 11th science. Shubham is seventeen years old student at MIT College. In 10th standard he has secured 86%. He is interested in extra-curricular activities and always participates in activities and also good in creativity. He always participates in all activities conducted for children like how to study, math classes in 10th std, summer camp, exposure visit, Participated in Art and craft session arranged in vocational classes, youth group meetings, Career Guidance, spoken English class, Aptitude testing at MSCERT, MSCIT class with good marks. Considering his need and hard work we referred his name for getting bicycle from Tata communications. He received bicycle from TCL during Global campus programme. He uses this bicycle for his tuitions which save time for his study.
Shubham and his family members are staying in rented house in Pune . Shubham’s parents are living separately since 10 years and all children are living with his mother. Shubham has two younger siblings (Sisters). Snehal (9th standard) and Shivani-(6th standard) both are taking education. His mother Mrs. Meena is doing domestic work. She is working in 9 houses where she works from morning 7 to 5.30 p.m. So she has very limited time to spend with her children. As she is the only earning member in the family and children’s all educational and living needs depends on her. But she is aware about importance of education as she was not able to continue her education after 10thdue to poverty of her parents.
Children get strong support from their mother in education. Sometimes Shubham’s maternal relatives help the family. Sponsorship aid always help him lot and Shubham is very keen to utilize the support properly and is very thankful to IDEA and the sponsors for the help. He would like to be an Engineer.
