Dear donors,
Warm greetings from IDEA!
We often come across modern times and old times at the same time. How? In the form of thoughts and ideologies of people. We look modern but our mindsets belong to medieval times. We carry the same attitudes, same beliefs for generations without questioning its meaning and relevance in present times.
This fact becomes more prominent while working with the communities. People come from various cultures, various places and live together in small pockets of a city. Many people in India still follow blind beliefs like godmen, human sacrifice, animal sacrifice, miracles, belief in ghosts etc. Some of them also go to mantric, quack, black magic and astrologers. It is also one of the reasons why many girls stop their education after getting puberty. A few girls do not step out during menstruation. By looking at such incidents, we felt the need to make the entire community aware of such misleading practices exploiting economic and mental abilities of the people.
The root cause of such evils is lack of awareness. Therefore to create awareness about rational thinking, a session on Superstition was conducted in the community. Around 75 people including our sponsored children, their siblings and parents were present for the program. To unfold the myth and explain simple science behind such mischief, we had a representative from Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti conduct a session with demonstrations. They gave hands on experience of how one gets caught in the harmful superstitions and rituals. She also explained dangers of blind faith and how illiterate women can be easy targets through mind tricks. Women were awed by learning the simple magic tricks that the mantrik uses.
It is very important to bring about positive change in the mindsets of children in the right age. IDEA goes beyond the concept of sponsorship and takes ownership for all round development of the sponsored children. These smart children have already picked up those tricks and they are ready to break the barriers of superstitions in their illiterate families, friends and communities.
Thank you friends for bringing light in their lives. We are very thankful to you and looking for your continued support. Your contribution for enlightening their lives is deeply valued.
