Dear Donors,
Greetings from IDEA!
We are very happy to bring to you the first report on our new project on Global Giving - “Educational Sponsorship for 50 children- INDIA”. IDEA is running this sponsorship programme since the last 6 years and has made it possible for hundreds of underprivileged children to finish their schooling and college successfully. There are many children in our Educational Sponsorship programme from Primary schools, High schools and colleges. Different activities are planned for them every month according to their age groups.
(1) ENGLISH ENHANCEMENT SESSIONS:
Knowing English gives an edge to students in their studies now and will also create a strong base for their future. Keeping this in mind IDEA has started English language sessions especially for High school children. An experienced teacher conducts these sessions in which she focuses on improving basics of the language like reading, writing, basic Grammar and speaking skills. Efforts are made to teach in a light and friendly manner through storytelling, games and charts.
(2) Session on “HOW TO PREPARE FOR BOARD EXAMS”
A child counselor conducted this session for 10th std children as they are in the last leg of preparing for their board exams. She explained to them that studies do not only mean academics but also learning through day to day activities and observation. She covered some important aspects of studying like –
- ‘How , When and What to study’
- Goal setting and planning should be SMART and accordingly to our capacities.
- Make a weekly time table and stick to it to reduce stress later.
- Give enough time to study both difficult and easy subjects.
- Make time for pursuing hobbies and sports.
- Nutritious diet and sleep are very important before the exams.
(3) Social Workers’ HOME VISITS:
An important part of the Educational Sponsorship programme is home visits by social workers. The social workers regularly visit the children’s homes to interact with their parents, to find out their needs and problems. The social workers also guide the families and counsel them whenever required. Most of the adults are casual labourers who are illiterate or school drop and families are struggling with many issues like marital discord, alcoholism, adolescent issues and poverty. In such an atmosphere it becomes extremely difficult for the child to concentrate on her studies. This also affects her mental and physical growth. At times like these the social workers offer emotional support and guidance to the children. Their role in the sponsorship programme is pivotal.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION! THERE ARE MANY MORE CHILDREN WHO NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
