SPACE plans to enhance the existing school facilities by providing educational materials, teaching materials and other logistics to ensure quality primary education to 300 poor and underprivileged children in the schools of coastal areas of Barguna District, Barishal, Bangladesh. SPACE also plans to support the poor children with nutritious meal, hygiene products and short-term medical support to reduce health risk & school dropout rate and to ensure a child friendly school environment.
Bangladesh is one of the most disaster prone countries in the world. About 0.5 million people from coastal villages in the southwestern region of Bangladesh were affected by several cyclones. The victims were socio-economically vulnerable considering the high rate of illiteracy, social-violence, health problems, and extreme poverty. Educating the children will reduce the illiteracy rate and these educated children will have good knowledge in surviving in these disaster prone area.
Providing quality education to poor children via enhancing school facilities and educational materials like books, notebooks, school bag, lunch box, water bottle, school dress, shoe & stationary materials. Nutritious meals and hygiene product supply for increasing the attendance in class and improved health condition of children. Emergency health service, deworming medication, Vitamin A and Iron & Folic Acid (IFA) & Zinc supplements will also be given to reduce health risks.
Goals of this project is to deliver educational & teaching material and logistic supports to poor structured existing coastal schools to enhance their capacity to provide quality education to poor students for reducing illiteracy and improved hygiene practice, healthy diet, medical assistance and proper knowledge in surviving in the vulnerable situations of coastal zones. Educating the children will be a sustainable way to eradicate the poverty which will lead them to a better living standard.
