This project will renovate an old abandoned Sports Club in Mtwara town, Southern Tanzania, and start an Education and Sport center, providing free Professional- and Life-Skills Education and Sports for 108 people with different disabilities and 270 unemployed vulnerable youth - oppressed by the insufficient education system; governmental institutions; the society as a whole and even family members. The center will educate and offer internship and employment opportunities for its beneficiaries.
People with disabilities' (PWDs) rights to education, health, services and sports are often being violated by the society and even family members, due to lack of knowledge, resources and negative attitudes. Families and service providers don't get sufficient training on how to foster and provide quality services for people with disabilities, hence putting their well-being at risk. After primary school there is no continuation in education for PWDs. Low education level puts them at risk of abuse.
We will renovate an old Sports Center in Mtwara town and start an Education & Sports Center promoting sports and healthy lifestyle. The center will support people with disabilities and their families by providing education on health and life-skills together with different professional skills to prepare them for healthy, independent life and employment. The center will offer internship and employment opportunities to several people with disabilities. We call it Live, Learn and Support - Center!
The center is open for everyone who like to enjoy sports, good food or learn new skills. The customers make the center self-sustainable and it can provide support for the disadvantaged people with disabilities (PWDs) and their families. The center will offer internship and employment opportunities to several PWDs, bringing them closer to the other people, thus breaking bias and promoting inclusion. New skills and economic opportunities create well-being and make PWDs more independent and equal.
