This project will help tribal girls from remote areas of Northeastern states of India to receive free education and dormitory facilities at the school run by Shiksha Bharati in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. The dormitory is an integral part of the tribal girls' education and allow 100 girls to reside safely within the campus of the school and attain excellent education. The dormitory includes a media room, library, game room and a room for self-defense classes and other extra-curricular activities.
Northeast India is a region known for its natural resources and cultural richness , as well as its remoteness and extreme poverty. Among the 200+ tribal populations that inhabit the region, far less than half of the women are literate- which is way less than the national average. The tribal girls are often unable to even access basic education. Poverty-stricken parents are reluctant to send their daughters to attend schools in other villages for the fear of their safety during the daily commute.
Girls from tribal villages of the Northeast region are selected and sent to Shiksha Bharati for quality schooling. IDRF provides free boarding, food and travel to all girls residing on the campus. In order to make the girls self-reliant and create adequate employment potentialities, IDRF also supports vocational courses like sewing, food preservation, cooking and computer literacy, etc. IDRF needs funds for the education & boarding of the tribal girls and maintenance of the dormitory.
The dormitory can accommodate up to 100 tribal girls. Some graduates have returned to their native regions and have started teaching local girls who are deprived of education like they were once. Educating a girl gives her the financial independence allowing her to lead a life of dignity and self-respect. This project makes a considerable contribution in breaking the cycle of gender discrimination and poverty. Endowment seat donors get letters regularly from the students about their progress.
