Dear friends and supporters
During the last weeks nearly, the whole world came to stand still because of Covid-19, which is affecting us too although it has not been detected yet in Namibia.
A group of volunteers from Norway is leaving earlier due to the outbreak and is repatriated.
Other volunteers can’t come due to travel restrictions.
For now our educational programs will slow down a bit. But we are hoping that Mammadu center won’t have to close as schools in other countries. We are not just teaching and educating the children, we are feeding them too and for the kids not having at least Mammadu’s meals and snacks would put them at an even higher health risk.
I am worried. Fortunately, Namibia has a low-density population which in this situation is a plus. On the other hand, basic hygiene is sometimes difficult here with no running water in the shacks, handwashing will become a problem and hospitals already struggle to cope with normal procedures. Considering that our population has already a series of health issues, like TB, HIV, Malaria and and and…. I am worried and I am scared of the unknow. I don’t know what’s going to happen, so I can’t take any actions, and this is to me frustrating.
Today we are all fine and I pray that it stays like that.
The pictures I attach this time have all been taken by one of Mammadu’s kids. He is 14 and then retouched them. To me they are truly beautiful, but maybe just because I see them with a mother’s eye. Hope you like them too.
Let’s all try to stay safe and hope and pray we can get over this situation all together.
