The story of Irene.

She made it ,she made it! This is the phone call that woke me up 3 weeks ago! It was Irenes school principal calling.I was ecstatic.I had been waiting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Results on baited breath. This brilliant, outspoken and tiny14 year old young girl had been in our program since 2014.When we first visited her school she was in the 5th grade and could barely say her name looking up.3 years down the line and she outdid herself scoring 372/500 marks n her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2016 .Not only was she the best student in her school but the division too and secured a place in the best performing girs high school in the region.

You see Irene has had a fair share of tough upbringing, raised by her aging grandfather and single mum who works as a domestic worker in a neighboring village. Our program of sanitary pads distribution ensured she did not miss a single day in school , coupled with our mentorship program that gave helped her build confidence and new inspiration to work harder and do better.

Irene's story was almost taking a sad ending. She reported to the high school she had been called to on 1/16/2017 accompanied by her grandfather.Unfortunately without enough tuition fees they were turned back and could not be admitted. When we got that call from her headmistress we knew we had to do something.Mfariji Africa is taking a leap of faith on this girl and many others. We have awarded her a partial scholarship to cover the 1st year tuition which will allow her to be accepted in school. This is what our mission is about, helping girls complete their education and become productive members of the society and donors like you make dreams for young girls like these become true.

Please take time to watch this video where Irene was featured in one of our pads distribution and have a feel of the difference your donation makes.
