More than 200 pupils and students from nursery, primary and secondary schools in Boana, Bojoke,Wonjava and Ekonjo, within the Bonjongo Court Area of the Buea Subdivision, in Cameroon have received much-needed school materials ahead of the 2026/2027 academic year. The educational support was provided on Saturday, August 29, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Bojoke Community Hall as part of the fifth edition of the Wonya Ngale Foundation's annual back-to-school initiative, organised under the theme “Empowering Futures, One Child at a Time.” The initiative, which targets underprivileged children, was organised in partnership with the Denis Miki Foundation, a non-governmental organisation committed to promoting education and supporting academically promising children, particularly girls and students interested in science-related studies.
The donation, which included school bags, books and writing materials, is expected to ease some of the financial pressure faced by parents as families prepare for the resumption of classes. Representing the Chief of Bojoke, the Chairman of the Bojoke Traditional Council, Mr Ekwa Gabriel Eko, expressed appreciation to the Wonya Ngale Foundation and its partners for bringing the initiative to the community. He said the assistance was particularly timely, considering the numerous expenses parents face at the beginning of every academic year. According to him, the support would help reduce the financial burden on beneficiary families and contribute to the smooth running of the school year. Eko described the initiative as a rare and meaningful gesture for the community, adding that it would help ensure that children from less privileged backgrounds are not left behind as preparations continue for the new academic year.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the CEO of the Wonya Ngale Foundation, Simon Ngale Ekambi, encouraged the pupils and students to make proper use of the educational materials they had received. He urged them to remain focused on their studies, work hard and strive to make their families and communities proud. Simon Ngale Ekambi explained that the initiative was inspired by his own difficult childhood experiences, particularly the challenges he faced in accessing basic educational needs. He said these experiences motivated him to work with partners to ensure that children in communities do not face similar difficulties.
For the beneficiaries, the support was received with gratitude. Upper Sixth student, Enanga Favour, said she intended to carefully preserve the books she received so that her younger siblings could also use them in the future. A Class Four pupil, Mojoko Joyce, also expressed appreciation, noting that the donation would help reduce the cost of preparing her for school.
For the organisers, the objective remains clear: to ease the burden on families and give every child, regardless of their background, a better opportunity to remain in school, pursue their dreams and build a brighter future.
