UNICEF reported that 85% of Cameroon children attend primary school, but only about 53% continue to secondary school. A 2010 study on “the effects of educational attainment on poverty reduction in Cameroon” showed that continued education decreases a person’s likelihood of ending up in poverty. The study also found a relationship between poverty and education in Cameroon.
Poverty can make it harder for people to attend school, and a lack of education can cause “low-income levels,” leading to poverty. The Cameroon Education Plan, wrapped up in 2020 and though that program has been completed, Cameroon continues to implement the Cameroon Education Plan to continue improving its education system. One of the solutions of the Plan we are at the Denis Miki Foundation work to support is to;
We use mentorship, coaching, study partners, home learning, extra classes and financial assistance as methods for supporting the education of children in Cameroon and across Africa.
Our commitment this year 2023 is to;
1. Assist girls who are in Examination classes but may miss out because of lack of finances to register as a result of hardship and poverty through financial assistance that will cover their registration fee.
2. Support struggling students who need home learning and extra classes to support their studies but cannot afford the cost for these follow up programs.
3. School Fees Support for pupils and students who remain out of the classroom because of hardships and lack of finances to pay School Fees.
We have seen massive changes in the lives of the children, girls and young people who have been beneficiaries of our different educational programs across the years and we believe with you all supporting us and spreading the word of our work around your network we will together continue to Impact Lives and make the world a better place for the future generation.
Better female education results in lower rates of poverty and improved health.
Through our Education Fund we have been able to support 20 Girls in both formal and informal educational programmes.
This year 2022 we hope to support 33 in Examination Classes, 20 in informal educational programmes.
We hope you enjoy learning about our work and continue to stay engaged with our team.
Please consider telling your friends and family about our project(s)—you can share on social media, or just bring us up in conversation. Sharing with your community why you chose to support our organization will help us increase our impact.
In Cameroon there is an un-ending inter-generational cycle of poverty which greatly affects the lives of girls from poor backgrounds and under-served communities. Most of whom are either orphans, victims of conflict, victims of different forms of gender based violence and high levels of dependency and school drop-outs.
Our DMF programmes to promote education have created platforms for us to partner with local communities and school institutions to run clubs in schools and local communities for the promotion of the rights of the girl child especially her right to education.
Promoting the realization of girls’ rights, we know that safe, inclusive and gender-responsive education is essential to future prosperity, gender equality, and ending to the inter-generational cycle of poverty.
In the last quarter we have launched one new school club in the town of Buea and continued activities with previous partner schools and also local communities.
We now have over 200 girls as members of our Her Voice Clubs who are in-turn running community development and empowerment programs among their peers.
We continually rely on goodwill donations and support from donors like you and will be happy to see you make a kind donation this day to support our efforts to empower the girl child.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021
