Our universities are being handed over to the war machine. On July 13, 2026, the Ministry of Defence announced the "Defence Universities Alliance" (DUA)-a formal network designed to embed higher education into the UK's military-industrial complex. Thirty-five universities have already signed on, agreeing to redirect research toward weapons development, funnel students into arms trade careers, and normalise militarism within our campuses.
This isn't just about funding; it's about capturing the minds and futures of an entire generation. But we don't have to accept this. On July 29, 2026, the Peace Universities Alliance officially launched-a coalition of students, staff, campaigners, and organisations determined to push back. We need your support to keep our universities independent, peaceful, and dedicated to the public good.
The DUA is not a partnership; it is a military takeover. Academic inquiry will be shifted away from climate, health, and social justice-and toward military technology used to cause harm and suffering around the world. Students will be funnelled into careers in the arms industry, stripping students and researchers of ethical choice and civil institutions of their independence.
