Our First University Graduation!

By Caroline Kouns | Operations Manager

We are thrilled to share a historic moment for our project and our community in Kenya. This quarter, we celebrated a monumental first: our very first student has graduated from university!

She has officially earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a feat made possible by the consistent support of donors like you. This achievement doesn't just represent a degree; it represents the breaking of a cycle. Having grown up as an orphan with limited prospects, she is now a qualified professional ready to give back to her country.

  • What’s Next? While she prepares for her official certification exam, she is actively seeking volunteer opportunities to gain clinical experience. Her dream is to become a registered therapist and provide mental health support to vulnerable children who, like her, have faced early life trauma.

The Pipeline: Success Across All Levels

Our "educational pipeline" is flowing stronger than ever. The success of our first graduate has created a ripple effect of motivation among the younger students:

  • New Beginnings: One of our recent high school graduates has just been accepted into a Diploma in Community Health program. This is a vital field in Kenya, and we are proud to support their transition into vocational training.

  • The Final Stretch: We currently have three students in their final year of high school. This is a high-pressure year, and they are all working diligently toward the grades needed for university placement.

  • Big Ambitions: Among our finalists is a young student with the goal of becoming a Doctor. In a region where healthcare access is often a challenge, the prospect of an orphan from our program returning as a medical professional is a dream we are determined to help realize.

The Impact of Your Support

School fees for orphans in Kenya are more than just a line item in a budget; they are a ticket to a different life. Your contributions this quarter have covered:

  1. Tuition & Exam Fees for our youngsters.

  2. College Enrollment costs for our new Community Health student.

  3. Mentorship & Career Guidance for our new Psychology graduate as she enters the workforce.

Looking Ahead

As our students progress to higher levels of education (Medicine, Community Health, and Psychology), the costs of tuition and specialized materials increase. Our goal for the next quarter is to secure the "Transition Fund" for our three high school seniors to ensure their hard work results in a university seat this coming year.

Thank you for believing in the potential of these resilient young people. You aren't just paying for school; you are raising the next generation of Kenya’s leaders.
