This project will continue to support local communities in the Bwari area of Nigeria. It will provide resources such as talking books, tabletop games, and board games to help 1000 children with poor access to electricity, learning and teaching materials, aged 8-14, from three local schools. By using these tools along with the "Teaching at the Right Level" (TaRL) approach, the project aims to improve their self-confidence, basic literacy and numeracy skills through child centred techniques.
In 2018, research highlighted a stark educational disparity in Bwari Area Council. Approximately 80% of students were struggling with basic literacy and numeracy skills. This alarming finding underscored the urgent need for intervention. Our initiative, based in Bwari, is designed to address these challenges by creating accessible Learning Spaces (LS) for 1000 pupils who've actively participated in funded Capacity Strengthening workshops for Changemakers.
This project solves educational challenges in regions with no electricity or internet by creating safe, low-tech learning spaces. It uses methods like Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and educational games to ensure children learn at their own pace, transforming them into active participants and improving both academic outcomes and well-being.
This initiative is to consolidate our local partner's capacity to deploy 21st-century teaching skills in local schools and across Nigeria and beyond. This will also involve engaging public office holders with influence in the education sector as we work toward achieving our vision as an organization.
