Bearing Fruit

Students giving back

So many years ago I set foot in Kenya for just one year, so I thought. I gave, and I received. Then the Spirit captured me, and my life changed. No child should have to sleep hungry or cold, no child should have to be without someone who loves them, no child should be unable to go to school and learn and gain choices in the direction of their lives. I would do my small part. Naïve and without the fitting skill sets, I set out on a journey unprepared. Some of you were part of that beginning. We went down some roads that did not lead to finish lines, or at least what we thought was the goal: being taught more than teaching.

Now 28 years later, after being unable to remain in Kenya, the curtains are opening on one vision, one dream, one answer to prayer…lives intersecting, touched, blossoming into permanent fruit trees.

One recent example is one “grow and flown” now a man. His hard work and focus, along with your prayers and donations, have grown a teacher. To encourage his students, he shared his life story and gratitude. Those students did not hear and forget, they traveled to JWHS to share of themselves bringing books and clothes, encouragement and joy.

Unknown to them was a precious gift for me. I see a strong tree bearing good, rich fruit that nourishes those it touches and provides seed for many more fruitful trees.

Thank you for your prayers, and never think that your contribution is too little. Remember the mustard seed. Remember the starfish and remember the widow's might. Enjoy the fruit with me.
