Dear Donors,
For 55 years, the Effetà Institute in Bethlehem has been a beacon of hope for children with hearing disabilities across the Palestinian Territories. Every year, around 200 children from Bethlehem, Ramallah, Hebron, Jericho, and many surrounding villages attend the Institute, where they receive specialized education, speech and hearing rehabilitation, and the support they need to develop their full potential. The Institute's mission remains clear: to prove that hearing loss is never a barrier to personal growth, education, or inclusion in society.
Effetà Institute continues to transform lives through an educational approach that combines academic learning, rehabilitation, and emotional support. Here, children learn not only to communicate but also to believe in themselves, gaining the confidence and skills they need to build an independent future.
This mission has become even more challenging in the current context. The ongoing conflict has deeply affected daily life throughout the West Bank. School closures, military checkpoints, and increasing restrictions on movement have made it much more difficult for children to reach the Institute. Many families have also lost their livelihoods and are living with uncertainty about the future, while trying to ensure that their children continue receiving the specialized education and rehabilitation they urgently need.
For children with hearing disabilities, continuity is essential. Speech therapy and specialized educational support, especially during the first years of life, cannot simply be interrupted without consequences for language development and communication skills. Despite these difficulties, the staff of Effetà continue working tirelessly to ensure that every child receives the care, education, and encouragement they deserve.
This year also marked a joyful milestone as a new group of students successfully completed their educational journey at the Institute. Their graduation was far more than the end of a school year; it represented years of determination, resilience, and hard work. These young graduates demonstrated that hearing impairment does not define a person's future. Through education, rehabilitation, and the unwavering support of their teachers and therapists, they have acquired the knowledge, confidence, and independence needed to take their next steps in life.
Your generosity helps ensure that every child who walks through Effetà's doors can continue to find their confidence and the opportunity to build a brighter tomorrow.
