Good food bring smiles and well being

By Tracey Mobley | Co Founder / Educational Lead

For many of the children who attend Mohlanatsi, the hot meal they receive at the centre, after school may be the only food they eat every day.

ARRC is dedicated to providing one nutritious hot meal per week to the 159 registered children and 23 GoGos (a respectful term for elderly individuals), following strict nutritional guidelines. Each balanced meal is designed to be packed with protein, carbohydrates, and fresh vegetables, ensuring that both young and old receive the essential nutrients they need.

We have perfected our weekly shopping skills ensuring that we are continually sourcing the best deals in town and negotiate with local vendors to provide the best food available whilst keeping our costs down to around $50 per week

However, while the centre does receive a small amount of government funding, it falls far short of fully covering the remaining four days of the week, reaching a crisis point in October, when the funding dried up completely, leaving the store room empty.

The thought of these children going to bed with an empty stomach is unimaginable, so with thanks to you, our wonderful donors, we were able to step in and supplement the food supplies to ensure they had at least the basic provisions to put a meal together. The parents and caregivers, many of whom are unemployed or elderly, are deeply grateful for the support we provide.

The positive impact on the children is clear. Shy, tired, and quiet kids have transformed into energetic, smiling, and joyful individuals. The older children’s academic performance has also improved, as shown by their recent exam results.

No child should ever go hungry, and thanks to the generosity of you, our incredible donors, we will continue to ensure this never happens.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2025!

With gratitude,
The ARRC Team
