Alexis , one of our younger students, earned a Bonus for excellent grades, awarded by Helping Hands, and also won the Scientific Olympics in Mathematics at his level. Thanks to your support, we can see nothing other than a bright future for this little one! 

HOW YOU CAN HELP THIS MONTH?

We are excited to share with you our informational video thatwon third place in the national contest “Urban Interventions”.  Thanks to all our students for being part of this video and congratulations to our whole team!

ACTIVITIES:

• Again this semester, our students have been volunteering for worthwhile causes. Doing good for others and their communities is the spirit of a Helping Hands student.  Check out our volunteer album at this link.Volunteer Album 5
• Our students discussed about new forms of masculinity to build a more just and equal society. Special thanks toPedro and Juanitawho invited Helping Hands to their organic farm in Achocalla for this workshop.
• Thanks to JUNTARTE JUNTARTE (Youth United for the Transformation through Art)for their very dynamic workshop on the upcoming elections and youth civic participation.
• We were honored to have been visited by Erick and his wife,owners of the First Class Institute here in La Paz, who showed us some fabulous learning materials that they have developed for the study of English. They have always given preference and discounts to Helping Hands students.

 News

CONGRATULATIONS, Luz Maria and Marcial, on your final graduations in Education Sciences and Automobile Mechanics. We wish you all the best in the future.  

And we are very proud of our students who walked the 14 kilometers of “CAMINANDO POR LA VIDA” to raise money for the treatment of poor children with cancer. Thanks PROGEST, LIBRERIA ARMONIA, RED CAP, KANOO TOURS and GRAVITY for sponsoring our students on the walk.

HOW YOU CAN HELP THIS MONTH

This month we are focusing on one of our girls who has a full scholarship to study Veterinary Medicine. Silvia is now in her fourth semester and doing very well. Silvia has no family support and finds it impossible to cover all of her expenses with her part time job only. For this reason Helping Hands will cover the monthly rent of her room ($78). Donations of any amount are very much appreciated and can be made on the GlobalGiving website. Thanks so much.

OTHER NEWS AND ACTIVITIES:

• The Fundacion Kantutani joined us for our July meeting to give a talk on taking care of your eyes and then distributed the new eye glasses to our students and families. Thank you so very much for the information and the new glasses. 
• For the second part of our July meeting we presented videos on how the prevention of sexual abuse of children. Our parents and students found this very helpful. 
• August was the month for the La Paz International Book Fair and thanks to Angel, a group of our students were able to visit the fair.
