Growing Tomorrow's Leaders

By Melissa Ninamango | Project Leader

Thanks to people who believe in the power of education, more girls in the Peruvian Amazon are discovering that they, too, can become leaders in their communities.

At Numpatkaim School, one book opened the door to that discovery. While exploring the "Climate Alphabet", provided as part of a climate education initiative, one word captured the students' attention: leadership.

Through its pages, the girls learned about women whose courage, commitment, and perseverance helped create positive change in their communities. They discovered that leadership is not about age, strength, or recognition—it begins with the decision to take the first step, work alongside others, and act for the common good.

Each story encouraged them to see their own community in a new way. Little by little, they began to imagine themselves as future leaders who could inspire their families, care for their territory, and promote actions to protect natural resources while responding to the challenges of climate change in the Amazon.

What started as a single word in a book became a new way of seeing themselves. Today, these girls know that leadership can begin in a classroom and that even the smallest action can spark meaningful change for their communities.

Thanks to your continued support, more girls are discovering the power of their voices, strengthening their leadership, and becoming changemakers for their communities and our planet. Your generosity makes stories like this possible.
