Education for all girls in Benin

Thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, our project continues to transform the lives of vulnerable children in rural villages in the Couffo department of Benin. During this period, 65 orphaned and disadvantaged girls received essential school supplies, enabling them to continue their education despite their families' economic hardships. This assistance helped improve school attendance, reduce the risk of dropping out, and strengthen parents' commitment to their children's education, particularly that of girls.

However, significant needs remain in rural communities where many families still cannot afford to finance their children's education. Girls remain the most vulnerable to dropping out of school, early marriage, and social exclusion. With your continued support, we will be able to expand our work to more vulnerable children, strengthen our integrated education and nutrition program, and offer more girls the opportunity to build a better future. In the isolated villages of the Couffo department in southwestern Benin, thousands of children live in extreme poverty due to a lack of access to education. Most rural girls are poor; despite their efforts, their parents cannot afford school supplies, registration fees, and other school-related expenses. This results in short-term school dropouts and persistent poverty. The cycle of poverty is thus perpetuated by the lack of funding for education. Yet, sometimes, very little is needed to bring about decisive change.

Thanks to your generosity, more than 65 schoolchildren have already benefited from our program. But beyond these numbers, lives are transformed, dreams are reborn. Today, we need your help to go further.

Our organization has launched an integrated program in the most disadvantaged rural areas, combining nutrition and education. Our vision is simple yet ambitious: to promote education for all, and especially for girls, a virtuous circle where every child learns and dreams. Already transformative results: 65 orphaned girls are currently receiving school supplies; the quality of teaching and school attendance are improving considerably; girls' enrollment is gradually increasing. The parents also thanked the NGO ALDF and GlobalGiving for their financial support in purchasing school supplies for these girls. This action will help keep all girls in school, prevent them from dropping out, and ease the burden on parents. An urgent challenge: In rural areas, parents cannot afford school supplies for their children, especially girls, who are the first victims: forced into marriage, exploited, and rendered invisible.
