Introduction to Performance of Understanding

Early Childhood Care and Education Programme conducted the first Performance of Understanding for June Month to conclude ‘All About Me’ theme. Parents were invited to spend a day in their child’s classroom. The aim of the event was to engage parents in their child’s school life and give them ideas to do the similar activities at home too. 90 per cent of the parents came to attend theevent.

The day started with parents and children coming and helping their children have breakfast. After finishing the breakfast, children along with their parents lined up for the Morning Prayer.Teachers encouraged the parents to sing the prayer and the National Anthem. The parents participated wholeheartedly.

The next activity of the day was circle time in their child’s classroom, where teachers took attendance and involved parents in talking about today’s date, weather and classroom rules. Teachers also discussed ‘All About Me’ theme and stressed on the importance of the theme and how various activities related to theme can be reinforced at home. The parents were also informed about their child’s daily routine.

After circle time the parents were shown their respective child’s performance folder, where a record of all activities done by them during the month are compiled. One of the activities was ‘All About Me’ Scrap book. Parents were asked to go through the scrap book and turn to the last page of the book, which, they were asked to complete with their children by making a family picture. The Parents and children participated enthusiastically and the results were veryastounding.

The day was concluded by displaying the best picture and asking parents if they had any queries with the teachers. The parents expressed their complete satisfaction over their wards progress and wanted this event to be held every month.

Follow up event

For the month of August the theme was 'Animals' for the pre primary students. As a response from the first event in June, once again parents were invited to spend a day at their children's classroom and get an update of their children's performance.

After the breakfast and morning prayer conducted by parents, the next activity was circle time where teachers introduced the theme and told the importance of teaching about animals to children. Teachers also gave ideas to parents to reinforce the concepts with children at home,

For parent engagement activity, parent and child partnered up to make a creative craft sample. The response & participation of parents was astounding. It was great joy to see parents and children collaborate & give life to creative ideas.

To conclude the day, teachers showed the parents their children's performance folder & explained each activity done by them. In addition, certain concerns were taken up with parents regarding their child's irregular attendance and health. Also, parents of upper Kindergaten children were asked to submit the document for their children's RTE admission by next month. Overall, the response and participation of parents in this event was spectacular.
