The children we lovingly nurture and support have lived through many severe and disturbing circumstances to be in a place where they now have brothers and sisters and are part of a cared for family. For them, learning brings hope to build a future. Help us continue to build this future with them.
Standard education in the local Indian community is by rote learning, in cramped classrooms. The challenge is to provide a creative, environment based learning which enables children to understand the natural environment where they live. Learning by doing projects in groups, interacting with children from other communities, having the possibility to learn with computers and internet access, will broaden their awareness and their capacities to be more capable of creating a good future.
By bringing together children in the coastal environment, teaching ecological structure and how this affects the quality of their lives will change their perception. Providing access to computer and internet learning will open new possibilities which they do not now have.
Tamilnadu is presently empowering local community groups to be able to earn a living in their communities without having to live in vast cities like Chennai. Teaching children to understand the value of learning from their community level enhances this Indian national goal. It empowers children to look beyond the restrictions of the past.
