Hector had always been interested in how electricity worked. But, no one in his family knew anything about electricity, and he had no one he could ask about it. Sandra had never even given a thought to electricity. It was just sort of always there. They both thought that they would leave school after they completed the 9th grade. That is what almost everyone they knew did.
Then, one day, they heard a teacher talking about what a great need there is in Honduras for electricians. At the same time, the teacher explained that if they stayed in school, they could enroll in the high school's 3 year electrican training program.
At first, they were really excited. Then, they became sad when they realized what a burden it would be for their families to provide the funds for them to attend high school. (High school does not charge tuition....but, there are many expenses: uniforms, supplies, transportation, meals, internship costs, etc, etc).
This same teacher encouraged Hector and Sandra to apply to the Shoulder to Shoulder High School Scholarship program. They were accepted, and for three years, they received enough help to keep them in school.
In November 2024, both Hector and Sandra graduated from High School with their electrician certifications. They, and their families, were incredibly proud.
In the photo above, Hector and Sandra are at an internship site.
Thanks to donors like YOU, Hector and Sandra (and many more students), are completing High School and obtaining the education and skills that will open doors to fulfilling careers.
