Education before work

At ednica, the promotion and defence of the right to education is a cornerstone of our Care Model, as we recognise that access to, retention in and continuity of schooling are essential for children and young people living on the streets to build alternatives for a dignified life and gradually reduce the time they spend in public spaces. Through our strategic focus on critical thinking, we promote educational processes that strengthen their ability to analyse their reality, make informed decisions and develop the tools needed to fully exercise their rights.

During this period, the children and young people attending ednica completed a new school year, the result of a comprehensive support process that combines educational monitoring, the strengthening of learning skills and collaboration with carers and educational institutions. These actions enable us to address the factors that may jeopardise educational retention and to promote continuous educational pathways.

In our Care Model, education is viewed as a transformative process that extends beyond the academic sphere. Through the development of critical thinking, children and young people build the skills needed to understand their environment, participate actively in decision-making, and shape their life plans with greater opportunities for personal, social and community development.

Each school year completed represents significant progress in the exercise of their rights and in the consolidation of life choices that move them away from working in the public sphere. This achievement reaffirms ednica’s commitment to a holistic approach that recognises children and young people as rights-holders and promotes the necessary conditions for them to fully exercise their right to education and build a future with greater opportunities.
