Summary

Over 1.3 billion individuals globally live with significant disabilities. In Pakistan, the educational landscape for children with special needs presents significant challenges, with less than 30% having access to education. The Rising Sun Education & Welfare Society is dedicated to bridging this gap by providing comprehensive educational, therapeutic, and skill development programs to thousands of children with various disabilities to make them independent and self reliant.

Challenge

Globally, over 16% of people live with disabilities, a figure that is often higher in low- and middle-income countries like Pakistan. Limited access to education and training traps many individuals with special needs in a cycle of poverty and disability. In Pakistan, approximately 25 million children aged 5 to 16 are out of school, with a significant portion having disabilities. Providing academic, therapeutic, and training facilities is essential to empower these children towards self-reliance.

Solution

Rising Sun offers free academic and vocational training services to children with special needs from economically underprivileged families. Their comprehensive programs include therapeutic support, education, independent living training, and vocational skills development, aiming to foster self-reliance. By adopting a family centered approach they involve parents through regular empowerment sessions. This holistic care spans the entire lifespan, from early intervention to skill training.

Long-Term Impact

The initiative aims to provide academic and training facilities to 200 children with special needs, empowering them to become self-reliant and break the cycle of disability and poverty, thereby becoming contributing members of society.
