Project Report | Nov 8, 2022
New term, new learning

By Milo | Ptoject Leader

Every semester (term) at the foundation, children and adolescents have the opportunity to meet new “professors” which is what they call all volunteers and practitioners in general.

This semester begins with fresh challenges and new ideas. We have welcomed the current cycle of psychology and sports students who are realizing the practical part of their university courses with Goals for Peace, and with them we formed a work plan form the coming months.

We also continue to welcome new participants to the foundation. One of these cases is that ofKarolina who in recent months has been actively participating in many activities. She has quickly adapted to the environment, has made new friends and has shown sporting and artistic skills. Notably in the manual arts, she is very fast at origami and wonderful at creative painting.

Without a doubt, she enjoys meeting new teachers “profesores”, is a very respectful girl and has quickly become an example of good behavior for others. This is important because she is helping to change the bad behavior of some other participants by being a positive example.

One of the great challenges in the foundation is to instill in children values such as respect, unfortunately in the families of some children they do not instill some of these values and this is reflected in their behavior.

Since the beginning of foundation 10 years ago we are always reinforcing the values, and it fills us with emotion when we manage to see significant changes in some specific participants, such as in the case of Hyam. A participant with great talent in sport but with anger management issues, with temperamental moments of negativity. This was one of the most difficult recent cases in which it has been very important to carry out psychosocial follow-up together with the mother and sister to reinforce the family nucleus. There was a process of identifying shortcomings in behavior and then follow-up support to help improve the issues identified.

After different meetings, the commitment of his family and the good intervention techniques of the professionals in psychology, the work team has noticed important changes in his behavior, he has been more collaborative, less aggressive in sports and has improved his work within a team. This change of behavior has been reflected in fun moments and stronger bonds of friendship with other participants.

Our desire since the foundation is precisely to achieve, through different modes of intervention, changes especially in these difficult cases, so that these children can develop and lead a happy life.
