Goals for Peace will provide educational support to 200 vulnerable children in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Delivered through homework club and workshops by psychologists, accompanied by physical training (usually football). We have 10 years of experience working continually with the local community. Our HQ and all programs are based in the deprived areas (barrios) of "Olas 2" and "Santos Bajos". We have a diverse team of professionals, local youth leaders, university students and volunteers.
Poverty and lack of education means the children growing up in the marginalized communities where we work have less life opportunities than those from more affluent areas. Within the neighborhoods there are gangs, crime and poor sanitation. This project aims to improve those life opportunities by bringing educational and sporting activities directly into the communities.
G4P provides a safe, supervised, space for children to do their homework assisted by professionals. This helps improve educational attainment but also means family members can work knowing their child is under supervision. Students in psychology deliver workshops tailored to different age groups and supervised by a professional to develop personal abilities and reduce anti-social behavior. Adapted sports training improves mental and physical health and positive values are promoted.
The project will positively impact the lives of 200 children and their families. Improve educational attainment and reduce anti-social behavior of participants. 10 years of continuous work has meant that previous participants are now youth leaders, they serve to inspire the younger participants. There are also youth leaders who have gone on to university or professional employment. This shows a pathway from participant in the foundation to leader to further education or employment.
