Farewell Dona Sara

Guadalupe and her mom Dona Sara
Guadalupe and her mom Dona Sara

We normally share a happy story in this newsletter but today we are afraid we have to deliver some sad news. Death is a part of this wonderful journey called life and last weekend we had to say goodbye to one of the first mothers ever to join the Integral Heart Family.

Doña Sara was 58 years old and it was discovered 18 months ago that she was suffering from terminal cancer. When she finally decided to go to the doctor after a long time of feeling sick she learned that it was too late to do anything about her illness.

She has been part of this family since 2010 and in all this time she has always been a sweetheart. All we could do to support her during this last period of her life was to provide her with painkilling medicines so she could at least alleviate the pain and have a better quality of life.

She leaves behind 9 children, three of them still minors although two are already working. Her husband died 4 years ago due to a liver condition. Her youngest girl, Guadalupe, is coming to our program on regular basis and we will be supporting her with all she needs to continue studying, as well as with psychological and emotional support.

Guadalupe is only 12 and will come back to us at the school next Friday. Her siblings will take care of her as well as us. Their financial condition is pretty poor and they will need all the help possible to make sure Guadalupe can complete her studies.

Thank you all so much for all your support and for making things possible. We can´t ever replace her mom´s place in her heart but she knows she will not be alone.

Thank you for helping us in creating a space of joy, learning, games, dreams and also mourning when needed.
