On March 28th, a devastating earthquake struck Myanmar, bringing destruction, loss of life, and immense suffering. The tremors were so strong that we felt them here at Baan Unrak, as we are very close to the border. It was a terrifying moment, but fortunately, we are all safe and did not suffer any material damage.
Here at Baan Unrak, we share a deep connection with Myanmar—many of our children and adults are from there. As news began to arrive, our hearts grew heavy. Seeing our people, our roots, in so much pain deeply affected all of us.
In times like these, what truly matters is compassion and the will to help. We can’t just stand by! Helping those in need means putting love into action, doing our part—together. And everything is equally vital: food and medicine, of course, but also a warm embrace, comforting words, and a supportive shoulder—each of these gestures makes all the difference for those who have lost so much."
Thanks to the support of so many kind and generous people and partner institutions, Baan Unrak has mobilized three response teams:
A coordination team based in Bangkok to organize overall relief efforts.
A team in Yangon, Myanmar, purchasing and distributing essential supplies to earthquake victims.
A ground team at Baan Unrak, preparing to cross the land border into Myanmar
As we finalize the remaining logistics—visas, transport routes, and distribution plans—we are confident these efforts will bring urgent relief, solidarity, and hope to those most affected by the disaster. For those in need, for those who suffer, we cannot wait.
We have already transferred 250,000 THB (approximately £5,650 GBP) to our associates in Yangon and the Baan Unrak team at Three Pagodas Pass to purchase more essential items—such as clean water, mosquito nets, medicine, and tetanus vaccines—for distribution within Myanmar on April 5th.
Our Yangon team has already delivered 100 blankets and 100 sleeping mats to affected families in Pyawbwe town, Myanmar. This was the first relief intervention in the township—we were the first team to reach them.
We truly believe that good will always prevail. Even in the darkest moments, love is stronger. And together, we will help rebuild lives and dreams for the people of Myanmar.
As such, we would like to set up another fund raising project that is specific for the Myanmar relief efforts. Please do stay tuned and provide us with your valuable support. Do not hesitate to drop us a mail should there be anything you wish to talk about.
