Based in Sangkhlaburi, North-West of Thailand, since 1990, Baan Unrak has sheltered hundreds of children and single mothers fleeing the civil war in Myanmar. We now provide a home, food, medical care, education to over 130 stateless children. Focusing on educational skills is the only way to secure their future. We provide a supportive environment and try to raise their self-esteem, thus launching students towards their vocational goals that will give them hope for a brighter future.
Educating for life includes fostering principles of mutual Love, good will, collaboration & dedication to work. Implementing self-sustaining programs has therefore also an educational purpose, teaching children important values. Through our projects we hope to become more self-sufficient as well as provide an improved quality of education which we hope will allow children to break the cycle of poverty. This project supports the educational fees, food, shelter, medical care & transportation for the children of Baan Unrak. Ongoing education also helps them achieve legal status by providing them with skills and confidence needed, thus empowering them with a better chance for a better future. On the other hand, self-sustaining programs will help develop positive values and possibly also job opportunities in tourism or agriculture.
Baan Unrak Children's Home is a community, older children help the younger. The step to vocational goals or University for particularly capable teenagers will allow the current group of older children to expand their prospects, with a long-term benefit for their "siblings". Helping older children move up the education ladder & reach their goals will set an important example. Helping self-sustaining Projects will foster positive principles of cooperation and mutual Love in all our children.
